Who are Mentally Strong People?

We often talk about physical strength. We devote less attention to our mental strength. There are lot of misconceptions about what it means to be mentally strong. Here are some truths about mentally strong people:-

  • Mentally strong people were born strong. Everyone has the ability to develop the cognitive emotional, and behavioral skills that build mental muscle. Growing stronger takes practice and hard work, also ready to give up the bad habits that hold them back.

  • Mentally strong people experience emotions just like everyone else. They are acutely aware of how their emotions can influence their thoughts and behavior. They behave contrary to their feelings and when doing so it helps them reach their goals. They keep their emotions under control.

  • Mentally strong people do not worry about pleasing everyone. They accept personal responsibility for their behavior and do not waste energy trying to manipulate others with harsh tactics.

  • Mentally strong people know how to overcome hardships, ranging from trouble childhoods to financial ruin. They learn from their failures and turn those experience in to learning opportunities that help them grow stronger.

  • Mentally strong people have the willingness to seek assistance from other who have more experience, expertise, education or resources. They seek personal or professional help when necessary and do not shame other individuals who seek to better themselves.

  • Mental health and mental strength are two separate things. Some of the strongest people in the world have battled mental health problems. Just like people with asthma can choose to build physical strength, people with depression, anxiety or ther mental health problems can develop mental strength.

  • Mentally strong people tolerate discomfort - but only when it is for a greater purpose.

  • To boost our mental strength, we should practice regulating our thoughts, managing our emotions and behaving productively despite whatever circumstances we find in ourselves. Increasing our mental strength is the key to reaching our greatest potential.
