'Menopause' is one stage of your life when a good diet is of paramount importance. Diet plays an important role in getting your system to perform at its maximum potential which essentially is one of the best routes to maintenance of physical, emotional and mental health. Here is a diet plan which if followed systematically could work wonders for you:-

  • The various disorders relating to menstrual flow, being systematic in origin, can be tackled only by treating the system as a whole, removing toxicity from the body and building up the general health level of the sufferer. To undertake such a scheme of all-round, health building treatment, the patient begin with an all-fruit diet for about five days, taking three meals a day of fresh, juicy fruits. If there is excessive weight loss (or underweight) during the all-fruit diet, may add a glass of milk to each fruit meal.

  • To have a well-balanced diet, you should adopt a well balanced diet, with emphasis on fresh fruits, raw vegetables and wholegrain cereals. Avoid white flour products, sugar, confectionery, tinned or preserved foods, strong tea or coffee, pickles and condiments.

  • Some simple adjustments in the diet can help a woman deal with menopause and its symptoms like (i) Increasing intake of vegetables like spinach, cabbage and tomatoes. (ii) Avoiding fried foods and instead use boiled and baked foods. (iii) Using brown rice instead of white rice. (iv) Including beans and lentils in the diet & (v) Dringing plenty of water and avoid caffeine, alcohol and colas.

  • Menopause brings specific illnesses, as such, it is essential to follow a healthy diet, in which you should include foods that contribute to your overall health.

  • More of the bitter and astringent foods like dark green, leafy vegetables will help cool the body. Astringent foods include beans, soya beans, poultry, potatoes and cabbage. But pungent foods like hot-spicy food, onions, garlic, mustard and chillies should be avoided.
